Secrets To Songwriting-8 Basic Chord Shapes
Secrets To Songwriting
I have categorized 8 basic guitar chords which have set the course for songwriting in America for over the past 100 years. These chords are interchangeable and can be used in any number of combinations to offer an endless supply of chord progressions to accompany melody and lyrics.
This grouping establishes similar fingerings moving vertically across the fingerboard. Notice the 3-2 finger relations on the G-C-F-D chords and the 2-3 finger relation on the E-Amin-Emin chords. A major acts as a bridge fingering between the two sets.
An ability to flow in and out of these shapes along with their proper string groupings is essential to developing your performance and writing skills. Next time I will show you how to utilize these chords in a fool proof paint-by-chord format to create and generate your own endless chord progressions.
Practice Nicely!
