Todd Ferris Mosby was born in St. Louis, Mo. birthplace to musicians Miles Davis, Oliver Lake, Johnny Johnson, Chuck Berry and David Sanborn. As an innovative composer, guitarist and improvisor specializing in Classical North Indian, Traditional Jazz and Contemporary Blues Guitar, Mosby is equally at home in these three worlds.
With Astor Piazolla as a model, Mosby composes music for an ensemble which blends well with his musical background, exemplifying Traditional Jazz, Classical North Indian, Classical Composition as well as 70's American Folk.
" I did not grow up listening to, studying or performing music of great European Composers, my musical experiences are in the vein of American Folk of the 60’s & 70’s, American Traditional and Modern Jazz of the 40’s-80’s and Classical North Indian of the Imdad Khani Gharana of which I am an honored member and dates back 500 years to courts of the Mogul emperors."
Mosby is one of the few composer/improvisors who successfully binds the improvisational and compositional aspects of these highly specialized genres into one beautiful artistic statement. He hopes to bring a higher understanding of East/West improvisational music and composition through concerts, lectures, demonstrations, master classes and writings.
Creating a beautiful and intimate space in any environment, compositions are filled with virtuoso performances creating a warm and exciting experience. Rooted in ancient and traditional cultures while still remaining contemporary, Mosby fuses the highest aspects of Classical North Indian Music, Traditional Jazz and Classical Composition into his concert presentations which are generally centered around celestial events.
